The Young Professionals Bootcamp(YPB).

The Young Professionals Bootcamp (YPB) is a 5-day in-residence program for high potential 20-25 year olds to learn world class practical training for success in the marketplace.

300 participants will be selected annually from a pool of numerous applications received and will go through a 5 day intensive professional bootcamp. At the end of the training, best performers will be selected and given fantastic opportunities and rewards. This year’s edition has been streamlined into 5 key sectors:

With YPB, we hope to equip young people with world class practical training, inspire innovation, drive success in the marketplace and ultimately lead to transformation of the Nigerian economy.

Social Entrepreneurship is entrepreneurship with a different intention. It desires to solve and respond to some of the biggest problems the world faces with innovation, and courage to make large scale impact.

  • To help participants learn about incorporating a Social Enterprise in Nigeria
  • To provide insight into skills, tools and resources required to start, work and grow in the Social sector.

Day 1
  • What is Social Entrepreneurship?
  • What is the background of Social Entrepreneurship and where did it start?
  • Real Social Entrepreneurs creating BIG impact.
  • Which areas do we still need Social Enterprises?
Day 2
  • Why should I consider being a Social Entrepreneur?
  • What is in it for me?
  • How do I know it is in me?
  • How and where should I start?
  • What are the legal implications associated with starting one?
Day 3
  • How can I raise funds? Where is the money at?
  • What are the skills, tools and resources needed to start, work and excel in the Social Sector?
  • Do I need a business plan? Marketing research?
  • Are there other ways I can be one without working in that Sector?
  • What does Nigeria need from me TODAY?

Day 1
  • Understanding the creative industry in Nigeria: Finding historical connections across the industry
  • Corporate World or Startup: making the decision - pros and cons, finding your niche and building on your niche
  • Finance in the Creative industries: Basic economics, writing a business plan and raising funds for business and creative projects
  • Pitching Creative Ideas and Marketing strategies – effective communication, pricing, promotion, partnerships and negotiation skills
  • Inter-disciplinary behavior: how to collaborate across disciplines and creative forms
Day 2
  • Law and Ethics: contracts, intellectual property, agreements and copyrights
  • Digital Disruption: Leveraging on technology with focus on Film, Music, Publishing, Fashion, Photography and Tech
  • Strategic Leadership, mentorship and Continuous Improvement
Day 3
  • Practical Session: Group Project on providing creative solution a variety of case studies in various creative fields. Participants will choose from film, music, publishing, fashion & Tech

This stream is designed to help aspiring entrepreneurs validate their ideas and understand steps to establish and grow their business

  • Opportunity Validation– Learn framework for validating business opportunities using Lean Canvas
  • Problem/Solution Fit – Determine if there is a real customer for your business

Day 2
  • Partnerships– Who makes a good partner?
  • How to structure your partnerships legally.
  • Managing the relationship with partners
  • Sourcing and leveraging strategic partnerships
Day 3
  • Bootstrapping – How to prioritize and determine the right next thing to focus on.
  • Guerilla marketing and Selling
  • Accounting and Corporate Governance for Startups.

This stream is designed to designed to demystify the workings of government and provide insight into the various routes to participation for individuals passionate about making an impact via government.

What is YPB?

How can I participate in the bootcamp?

You can participate by applying online at http://www.youngprofessionals.ng/register

Are there entry requirements?

You must be between 20-25 years by December, 2016. You should have a passion to succeed.

What are the areas of focus?

The courses available will be under the broad streams. Sectors are:
1. Entrepreneurship
2. Creative Arts and Media
3. Social Entrepreneurship and NGO
4. Politics/Governance and Public Sector
5. Corporate Career.

Is it free?

YPB is absolutely and completely FREE. Accommodation will also be made available for selected applicants.

Bootcamp dates and venue?

Dates are from December 7th to 11th, 2016. Venue will be communicated to successful applicants

If I had been selected but need to cancel, can I simply transfer my registration to someone else?

Admission cannot be transferred.

Is it only available to Lagos residents?

No. Anyone who meets the requirements across Nigeria can apply. However, participants outside Lagos will need to take care of their transportation to the venue.

As a Lagos resident, do I have to stay in the camp? Can't I simply resume every morning and leave after each day?

You should stay in the camp to enjoy the full benefits.

Is there a dress-code?

Dress in comfortable, casual but moderate clothing. Jeans and trainers are welcome.

How do I know if I have been selected?

You will be contacted either via e-mail and/or SMS.

What caliber of facilitators/ trainer should I expect?

You will have some of the best people, top performers in the various sectors. Visit the Facilitators section of the website to see a full list of your facilitators and a brief bio on each facilitator.

Are there exams to take? Will I receive a certification after this bootcamp? Will there be rewards for good performance?

There maybe group tests but no individual tests. On completion of all sessions, you will be awarded a certificate of participation. There will also be fantastic rewards for top performers.
